Kentwood 45, Auburn Riverside 0

Bubba Fuga started the game out in style, taking the first pitch 90 yards for a touchdown. Bubba added two more touchdowns, and piled on the yards to lead Kentwood to a 45-0 victory over Auburn Riverside. Brandon Bangsund kicked a 39 yard field goal as time expired in the first half to push it to a 24-0 lead. Darold Thach started the second half off with a 40 yard interception return for a touchdown, and Elijah Funk would barrel into the endzone later in the half. A quick pass on 3^rd and Goal from the 17 from Lenny Smith to Terry Jones would finish the scoring for the Conks. Kentwood moved to 8-0 with the win, and look to finish the season undefeated next week against Kentlake.

10/22/12 KW vs Aub-Riverside

KW Freshmen get back on the winning track. Beats Auburn-Riverside 12-0

KW came out swinging, with Isaiah Williams taking the opening kickoff back 85 yards for a touchdown. That was it for the scoring in the first half as both teams struggled with the wet weather. The KW defense continued playing well with both Marke Taylor and Andre Slyter coming up with drive stopping interceptions. Conner Benson, Jacob McCord, Devin Eckert, and Beau MacDonald all had quarterback sacks to help heep the Ravens out of the end zone. Chris Salyer and Trenton Harris also contributed by recovering fumbles. The second half the Conks settled down and had some long clock eating drives, with one ending in a 10yd run around the right side by Conner Benson for KW’s second score.

The conks now look forward to ending on a winning note taking on the Kentlake Falcons next Monday at KL high school.

We’re just a little over a week away from the district playoffs in football and there are plenty of football left to be played to figure out where all the teams land, including six Wesco crossover games that will have a big impact on the the 4A and 3A quad-district playoffs.

Here’s a look at the different playoff possibilities for local teams and what games to keep an eye on Friday night:

• Monroe/Jackson winner (Wesco 1) vs. Tahoma/Jefferson winner (South Puget Sound League North 4)
• Monroe/Jackson loser (Wesco 2) vs. Rogers/Puyallup winner (SPSL South 4)
• Edmonds-Woodway/Lake Stevens winner (Wesco 3) vs. Auburn/Kentlake (SPSL North 3)
• Edmonds-Woodway/Lake Stevens loser (Wesco 4) vs. Bellarmine Prep (Narrows 1)
• Arlington/Mariner winner (Wesco 5) vs. Kentwood (SPSL North 1)

Kentwood 42, Kent Meridian 6

The Kentwood JV team extended their winning streak on the season to 4 games with a 42-6 win over the Royals of Kent Meridian. Bubba Fuga scored two touchdowns on the ground, Tanner Heinz added another, and Brennan Ramberg scored his first of the season in the blowout. Rudy Gonzalez hit Austin Owens in stride for yet another touchdown. Austin Holm scooped up a loose fumble on a kickoff, and scampered into the endzone for another touchdown. After not playing much defense the first half, the second half was a much harder hitting affair. The Conks got back to Kentwood football, and shutout the Royals in the second half. Kentwood will face off against cross-town rival Kentridge next Monday at 6:00 pm at French Field.

KW Freshmen Keep Improving – Beating KM 39-6



The KW freshmen continued their winning ways beating KM 39-3.

The offensive line (Chris Salyer, Keaton Tompkins, Austin Duncan, Eddie Aguero, Skyler Mortensen) showed the most improvement with the offensive line controlling the line of scrimmage for most of the game.

Isaiah Williams had a big day with two runs for a touchdowns and an interception for another. Grant Stockman also did well with a pass to Jordan Ford for a score, a run for another, and hooking up with Joshua Tingstad for a 2pt conversion. Kevin Clay also contributed with a run for a TD and recovering a fumble setting up another score.

The defense continued its stingy ways, only giving up one score. They were led up front by the tenacious Bo MacDonald and some great tackling by Joshua Tingstad.



The team continues to improve every week and are looking forward to another cross town rival when we take on Kentridge next week.

Kentwood 56, Mount Rainier 0

The Kentwood JV Team improved to 3-0 with a dominating performance, shutting out Mount Rainier 56-0. Bubba Fuga got the scoring started with a 5 yard touchdown run early in the first quarter, followed by a 4 yard run by Tanner Heinz. Jake Roes connected in the second quarter with Austin Owens on a 4^th and long for an improbable touchdown. Owens backed that up with an interception that he ran 47 yards back for a touchdown. Darold Thach returned the half opening kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown, avenging two touchdowns that he had called back on penalties in the first half (receiving TD, punt return TD). Elijah Funk broke several tackles on his way to a 37 yard touchdown run, and Cory Wabinga added his own 5 yard run for a touchdown. The game finished with a spectacular 55 yard interception return for a touchdown by Thach. Kentwood plays Kent-Meridian at French Field (as the visitors) on Monday at 6 pm.

Kentwood Freshmen Continue to Improve. Beat Mt. Rainier 46-0

The defense continued its stingy ways holding the Rams scoreless. Kevin Clay, and Bryce Richard both had interceptions and Kevin Vo joined in with a fumble recovery.

The offense exploded this week with rushing touchdowns by Conner Benson, Kevin Clay, Sam Kramer, Isaiah Williams, Marke Taylor, and Sukhraj Nahal. Brian Campbell also hooked up with Bryce Richard for another score.

Now they look to keep it rolling as they prepare to take on their cross town rivals KM at French Field next Mon at 4:00.

KW Freshmen Win Home Opener 14-6

The KW freshmen took on a tough Thomas Jefferson team Monday afternoon.  Both teams played well at times, but inconsistency kept the game tight until the end.

The offense moved the ball well for most of the game on both the ground and in the air.  Scores came on long pass plays, both to Trevon Shelton. One from Grant Stockman, and the other from Brian Campbell.

Defense played well again. Lead by strong play, including a couple of fumble recoveries, by Beau MacDonald, Sarbjot Nahal,  and interceptions by Isaiah Williams and Conner Benson.  The defense finished the game by driving the TJ offense back to their own end zone for a safety to cap off an impressive effort by the KW defense.

Next game will be at Mt Rainier at 4:00

The Kentwood Conquerors delivered a 31-7 defeat to the Auburn Trojans in a South Puget Sound League North 4A opener Friday at Auburn Memorial Stadium.
The Conks shot out to a quick lead in the first quarter, finding the end zone three times in the period to put the score at 21-0.

By the half, Kentwood was up 28-0.
On Kentwood’s first play from scrimmage in the game, Conks senior quarterback Dane Manio connected with senior Terrance Grady for a 39-yard touchdown.
Kentwood added touchdowns on a 8-yard Dom Lindstrom run and a 1-yard quarterback keeper by Manio in the quarter.

In the second quarter, senior Jackson Huerta caught a 23-yard pass from Kyle Kirkham. The Conks scored once more, on a Mitchell Cox field goal in the fourth quarter.

The Trojans’ lone score came on quarterback Brier Atkinson’s 1-yard keeper with 3:17 left on the clock. Atkinson finished the game with 7-of-15 passing for 58 yards.

Manio finished with 8 of 12 passing for 92 yards and two interceptions. He also had 14 carries for 67 yards.

The Conks host Jefferson at 7 p.m. Thursday at French Field
